One of the things I LOVE about New York City is how every. single. day. is remarkably different! You never know who you might meet or what you might encounter! One afternoon while strolling along the Hudson River with Diesel, I met George Throop. Diesel ran up to him and began inspecting his Walk Across America cart. George kindly asked if I would snap a photo of him in front of the Statue of Liberty. He seemed very pleased to see Lady Liberty, so I inquired “where exactly did your journey began?” George actually started his walk in Washington State! Wait, what??? You walked from Washington State to New York?? Unbelievable! Just incredible! He briefly told me he was walking to promote health across America and even expressed his gratitude to all the organizations and businesses helping him along the way. Pretty remarkable, if you ask me!
After more research, I learned he started his walk in 2009 as a tribute to his mother who passed away from cancer. George’s story has also been featured on CNN, NPR, Yahoo News, and numerous other local publications along the way. Learn more about Walking Across America online at www.enjoythewalk.org!
