We all have them…junk drawers and junk closets where random items are placed, never to see the light of day again! Our utility closet was a catch-all of tools, extra paint, laundry supplies, doggie food storage, dog toys and goodwill donation items. Problem was, it would never stay organized and it completely drove me bananas! One day I decided it was time to tackle the utility closet head on!
Not only did I want to organize the closet but I also wanted the improve the overall look and function of the space! Hopefully, encouraging us to keep it looking amazing!
Y’all ready for the before photo? Get ready! It’s a hot mess! No judgments, please š
As with any organizing project, the first step is to take EVERYTHING out and start fresh!
Once I removed all the items from the closet, I was left with scuffed white walls. Pretty. Boring…
The closet needed some pizazz! To brighten the space, I painted the interior walls and even the ceiling!
The closet door was an ivory/off-white color and needed some brightening as well! So, much brighter with a fresh coat of white paint!
Next up, storage solutions! When you have a small space, take advantage of vertical storage! I bought these Rubbermaid shelves from Lowe’s ($25) to give us extra vertical storage!
Now for the flooring…. time to replace the closet carpet! Luckily, our closet is quiteĀ small in sizeĀ and the carpet store gave us some remnant carpet for FREE! Holla!
Now, I just had to sort through the items I had removed from the closet. I moved all the paint supplies and tools to the garage. I washed all of Diesel’s toys (1 dishwasher cycle on sanitize), then took half of his toys and mailed them to my brother’s new puppy Phoenix! Lastly, I gathered up all the donations and dropped them off Goodwill! Done and done!
After all the sorting and de-cluttering, we had a much more manageable number of items to put back into the closet.
Here is the closet transformation! TADA!
Wow! Such a difference! Hope you all enjoyed my closet transformation!
