Living in the skyscraper capital of the world, it’s easy to walk by buildings never really appreciating their existence. Located in downtown Manhattan near the Brooklyn Bridge, the Manhattan Municipal building is a designated New York City landmark. I’ve walked by the building numerous times but never truly explored it until today! It’s definitely one of the most beautiful buildings in the city! Who knew, it was featured in the Ghostbusters movie and on Seinfeld as Elaine’s office!
Architecturally, there is much to appreciate-limestone, arches, columns, and sculptures! This century old building was the first building in New York City to incorporate a subway station at it’s base! The subway station entrance is gorgeous and features an arcaded plaza covered with amazing Guastavino tiles. I wish all subways entrances looked like this one 🙂
The Manhattan Municipal Building mainly functions as a office building for many businesses and city departments, including Mayor Di Blasio’s office. It’s also a popular location for weddings in the city!
