The Cronut Craze has taken over NYC and my curiosity has been sparked! What’s a Cronut? Donut? Croissant? What’s all the fuss about and is it really worth all the hype?
Every morning, the Dominique Ansel Bakery opens at 8:00 AM to long lines of eager foodies waiting for their sugary Cronut fix. Small inventory combined with lots of adoring fans has become a supply and demand business dream. Cronuts sell out fast every.single.day!!!
You gotta play the waiting game for these infamous Cronuts! Crowds typically form at least 2 hours before opening. However, the wait is much more tolerable thanks to the friendly staff handing out warm Lemon Madeleines and fresh lemonade. Nice touch Ansel!
We were also given a bakery menu and the “Cronut rules”:
1) Limited 2 per person
2) $5.00 each (not including tax)
3) Flavor of the Month for August is Yellow Peach Black Tea
4) Every Monday @ 11:00 AM you can pre-order online
Granted, my review was formulated with the build up of anticipation after waiting in line on an empty stomach but I must say the cronut was SOOO good!
Heavenly and utterly delicious! Unlike anything I’ve tasted–layers upon layers perfectly combined with crispy pastry and creamy filling. Sweet, yet savory. The real test? Big South taste test! He isn’t a dessert fan @ all. As in, he never eats sweets. I asked him try one bite and whatta know? He came back for more. Granted he didn’t finish it but it’s a rarity nonetheless.
Most likely, I’ll wait for future Cronuts but I do want to try the Milk & Cookie shot (chocolate chip cookie shaped into shot glass and filled with vanilla-infused milk) available only after 3:00 PM! Yummy!
