Happy Monday Darling!! Hope you had a fantastic weekend!!

Oh Sweet Summertime has arrived in New York and Friday night was the perfect night for a baseball game! New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox…to be exact! I’m still smiling ear to ear from our excursion!

Going to NY Yankees game has been on my bucket list since we moved to the city! It’s such a quintessential New York experience! Big South surprised me with tickets and I was bubbling with excitement the entire day! Regardless of whether or not you’re a NY Yankees fan, hopefully we all can agree that some of the greatest Baseball players of all-time have donned the famous Yankee uniform (Yogi Berra, Babe Ruth, Reggie Jackson, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle, and Lou Gehrig).

Often termed, “The Cathedral of Baseball” or “The House that Ruth Built”, the new Yankee stadium is a spectacular shrine to the baseball empire! We watched the game (Derek Jeter’s last season), ate hotdogs & popcorn, and even toured the NY Yankee Museum! The NY Yankee Museum is filled with NY Yankee baseball memorabilia including championship rings, uniforms, baseball bats, and even a “Ball Wall” with autographed baseballs from past and present Yankee players.

Best part of the evening? We enjoyed the night with great company and the NY Yankees won the game 🙂

Hook and Ladder 8

Who ya gonna call? Ghostbusters!

Strolling through TriBeCa today, I came across the famed Hook and Ladder 8 Firehouse, which happens to be the headquarter location in the 1984 film, Ghostbusters! A rendition of the iconic Ghostbusters logo is even painted on the sidewalk! Today, the building is an operating firehouse but the main door wasn’t open for a peek inside! Either way, it’s a cool spot to check out-especially if your an 80’s kid like me! I ain’t afraid of no ghosts 🙂

Dog Days of Summer

Hello Loves! Happy HUMP Day to you all!

Did you miss me? Sorry for the brief absence in posting…our Diesel doggie has been under the weather and I’ve been playing the ‘Canine Caregiver’ role! Normally, Diesel is a bundle full of energy- constantly playing, running, barking and getting into mischief! I knew there was a problem when he wouldn’t even walk to the elevator to go outside. Thankfully, after one visit to the animal hospital and one large vet bill later- we are back in business! Diesel is sleeping like a champ after a full dose of medication, a hot bath and more doggie treats than he deserves. Spoiled rotten!! In my defense, I’m pretty sure he is milking this for all it’s worth 🙂 Live it up while you can buddy!!

The Mountains are Callin’

Wahoo! It’s Thankful Thursday and I’m over the moon excited about our travels tomorrow! For the first time since moving to New York City, I am traveling H-O-M-E!! Goodness Gracious! Seems like forever since I’ve seen the beautiful mountains of North Carolina!

Hello Road trip! Here we come! Yep, that’s right folks! We are driving to NC… our bulldog, Diesel is one of the only dog breeds on the no fly list 🙂 So, we are packing him up and leaving the Big Apple!

For the next few weeks, I’ll be one busy lady! I’ll be traveling all over to visit family, friends and our Sweet Home Carolina house progress! Since I LOVE you, dear readers oh so much–I’m taking you with me! My blog posts may be less frequent than usual, but I promise to share lots of photos and stories along the way! Hope you all have an amazing Memorial Day weekend!

Red Bull Film Shoot

Happy Monday honey! Hope you had a fantastic weekend!

Living in New York City, you become accustomed to seeing photo/commercial/movie shoots quite frequently and although I’m somewhat “used to” seeing production sets, the most recent one was a impressive spectacle! Action packed and super exciting!

Sunday, we woke up to an elaborate film shoot for the Red Bull on the Hudson River! The entire waterway (including the air space) had been cleared for taping and the US Coast Guard provided security for the event. A large barge served as the landing station for the Red Bull Air Force Dive Team jumping from a Cessna 208 aircraft!! Five dive team members exited the aircraft and parachuted directly onto the barge in perfect sequence. I stood alongside several family members of the divers and everyone cheered loudly when each one landed!! It was absolutely one of the most unbelievably thrilling film/photo shoots I observed in the Big Apple!

9/11 Memorial Museum Dedication

The mood in New York was quite somber today, as President Obama opened the dedication of the 9/11 Memorial Museum. Even the weather today was fitting for the occasion with dreary skies and drizzling rain.

I’m always cognizant of my surroundings in lower Manhattan and try to be mindful that individuals passing by, may very well be the loved ones of 9/11 victims. Today, there were indeed numerous groups of loved ones, friends, and service men affected by the 9/11 attacks.

The dedication was held inside the museum and therefore, it closed off to the general public. However, large crowds still gathered around the museum and Freedom Tower. Every news crew in town was reporting outside the museum and the police presence was tremendous. The 9/11 Memorial Museum has been somewhat controversial, especially the location of the 8,000 unidentified remains that will be housed underground and the $24 admission charge. Families were holding banners stating their views, while others quietly expressed their remembrance wearing construction hats sketched with fallen victims.

The opening of the 9/11 Memorial Museum is certainly bringing back memories of an extremely tragic day in our nation’s history. Even after thirteen years, the rebuilding is still underway. Despite these hard truths, there is symbolism in the most unexpected places. Beautiful flowers growing near the Freedom Tower NYPD road blocks. Signs of life. A true symbol of our nation’s resilient spirit. May we never forget…

Lady Liberty

I still remember the night we moved to New York…I opened our apartment door, dropped everything I was carrying and ran to the window to see her! Lady Liberty is our nation’s iconic American Beauty. Even now, I am still in awe of her! I’ll never grow tired of seeing her everyday.

My hubby had never seen Lady Liberty up close, so we decided to spend an afternoon with her! My heart was so happy riding through New York Harbor with a ferry filled with visitors speaking every language other than English. They had such enthusiasm and excitement to see our magnificent National Monument. Lady Liberty was gifted from France in 1886, symbolizing friendship established during the American Revolution and she is modeled after the Roman Goddess of Liberty. She has been a shining beacon of hope and freedom to countless immigrants fleeing to America for a new beginning. The American Dream awaits!

Every time I see Lady Liberty I’m always reminded of friends and family serving in the armed forces that have fought & are still fighting to protect everything she represents and stands for…our freedom. It is a luxury often overlooked by Americans and denied to millions throughout the world.

The Highline

Inspired by the Promenade plantée in Paris, the Highline is the ultimate repurposed railway that dates back to 1847! Following the decline in railway traffic in the 1950’s, part of the railway was demolished. Once the railway completely closed in the early 1990’s, it was abandoned and left in disarray.

Thankfully a non-profit organization was formed ‘Friends of the Highline’ to save the railway and convert it into a public greenway park! Now visitors can enjoy views around Chelsea and the Meat Packing District from the restored elevated tracks!

The Highline is definitely a great place to visit for an afternoon stroll of sightseeing, people watching, and enjoying homemade gelato! I really loved the amazing architecture and the stunning wall murals, especially the colorful rendition of the V-J Day War Kiss! Street art talent at it’s finest 🙂

Central Park [Part 1]

Central Park is quickly becoming my new favorite place in the city! It’s the perfect spot to enjoy the warmer weather and longer days of spring!

Within the 843 acres of massive landscape, you’ll find carriage rides, Belvedere Castle, Central Park Zoo, the grand terrace, a carousel, baseball fields, boat rides, waterfalls, sculptures, the Reservoir…who knew there was so much to discover in Central Park? Plus, it’s peak blooming season for all the flowering trees and gorgeous tulips! Yay for pretty springtime colors sprinkled around the park!

Saturday morning, we randomly woke up super early (6:00 a.m. peeps!) all bright eyed and bushy tailed! We decided to throw on some baseball caps, grab our Diesel doggie and head to Central Park! I truly believe Central Park helps keep New Yorkers sane amidst the busy rat race living in New York City. CP also keeps the canine companions happy & content! Dogs ARE allowed on the grass!! The best part? From 9:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m. dogs can be off leash and roam free! Nowhere else in the city are dogs allowed such freedom! Diesel had a permagrin on the entire day thanks to his adventures in Central Park 🙂

Jason Priestley Book Signing

Anyone remember Brandon from the Beverly Hills 90210 tv series? Jason Priestley released his new book ‘Jason Priestley: A Memoir’ this week and the book delves deeper into his personal life, career and living the limelight . He writes about his wife & children, his comeback after a horrific racing accident in 2002 and he even dishes about many of his fellow actors on set of 90210. I especially love how he titled each chapter with the City & Zip Code (New York 10012).

Barnes & Noble in Tribeca hosted the book signing and the mega fans were out in full force toting all types of Jason Priestley memorabilia! One girl was showing off her newly inked Jason Priestley tattoo! Talk about a loyal following! Wow!

Jason was incredibly personable and patient with the fans! He signed every piece of memorabilia, posed for photos, and personalized each autograph! I noticed he was also super cool to the handful of guys that came to meet him as well. All around, Jason seemed to be a very likeable, laid-back guy!
