Yay! I’m SO excited to share my staircase makeover with you! By far, it’s been my most FAVORITE home project! A true labor of love!
Our light oak staircase looked very dated and I was determined to spruce it up! I discovered one of the best products for staining wood–General Finishers Java Gel Stain! Oh my goodness! It goes on like buttah baby! Check out the five star reviews on Amazon.com and you’ll be a believer too!
A word to the wise–this is definitely a weekend project, so make sure you set aside enough time to finish the project in it’s entirety. You really do have to ensure each coat is completely dry before adding additional coats or it won’t be pretty! Trust me, loves 🙂
Here is everything you’ll need!
One // Two // Three // Four // Five // Six// Seven// Eight (old socks)//
Step 1: Clean your staircase
Step 2: Use sandpaper to sand off glossy coat
Step 3: Wipe off any remaining particles from sanding
Step 4: Tape off spindles thoroughly using plastic drop cloths (you may also want to put drop cloths on your stairs as well)
Step 5: Make sure you have your gloves on and begin staining! Use foam brush or old sock to apply a THIN coat of stain. Go slowly!
Step 6: Use small paint brushes for edging around spindles
Step 7: Dry overnight
Step 8: Apply 2nd coat of gel stain and let dry completely
Step 9: Apply additional coats of stain based on your preference (I applied 3 coats)
Step 10: Touch up areas around spindles
How do you like the staircase transformation? Love it? Hate it? Let me know your thoughts! I’d love to hear whatcha think!
